KANJI in brass with a tea set in a Japanese room
KANJI · Ryokan

Japan 2025

Few lines. Plenty of space.

KANJI, back where its name began.

Kanji are characters that carry a whole meaning in just a few strokes. The table was made on this principle: reduced, precise, calm. In Japan it stood where this attitude is at home.

01 · Arrival

Paper, wood, light.

A ryokan. Sliding doors of paper, tatami on the floor, a window onto green. KANJI fits in as if it had always stood there.

02 · Tea

A bowl of tea.

No staging. A teapot, two bowls, time. The brass takes on the warmth of the room.

03 · Surface

Up close.

Up close, the form steps back. What remains is line, surface and a metal that develops character over the years.

04 · Fuji

The mountain.

On the last morning, Fuji without a cloud. No piece in the picture. Some moments belong to the place alone.

Fewer strokes.

KANJI is back in Nürtingen. Unchanged on the outside. Yet every journey writes itself into the metal.
